Eating, home and away   Leave a comment

When Rob and Samantha were out here on holiday last year Rob told us about a Thai green curry that has become one of his favourite dishes to make. Well they were here again on holiday and so I asked him if he’d like to come up to my place and make one for us all to eat. Jenny and I had made one but it was way too hot and I don’t think we had all the right ingredients then so it was a bit of a disaster really. Anyway they came on Saturday afternoon and Rob made it while Sam and I and a couple of other friends sat and had a chat. Well all I can say is that it was a great success, very tasty and none of it got left for the dogs so WELL DONE ROB, many thanks. We then sat and chatted until late before I took Rob and Sam back down to Kaş.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any photographs of the evening which was a bit stupid of me. During the evening my friend Suleyman rang me to invite me to a barbecue at his place the following (Sunday) afternoon and of course I said I would go.

Suleyman had moved his lorry back a few feet to give space for the table between it and his tractor. There are better locations for a barbecue but this is how we do it in the village and it is no less enjoyable for it. Nebi and Turkan’s son Gönenç was really happy to play on the tractor and you can just see his Mum sitting at the table behind him in this photo.

Suleyman’s previous and present ground floor tenants were there and Nebi and Turkan from Istanbul are enjoying their last week here for this holiday.

It’s a fine photograph of the back of Suleyman’s head, Nebi is next to him and Turkan has the red top on. Suleyman’s wife Hatice is serving up some of the barbecued chicken and Mustafa’s daughter Zeynep is looking up at him. Suleman’s new tenant, Ahmet, is sitting next to Mustafa and Nebi’s mother is opposite him in the white Yasma. Mustafa’s wife Hasibe was helping to prepare the food and is on Suleyman’s right in the picture, she also looked after the barbecue (‘mangal’ in Turkish).

After the meal the children were playing and I noticed them sitting together in front of a cardboard box. I first thought they were playing at ‘shops’ but it turned out they had arranged some different sized boxes to make a computer and even had a mouse with a wire coming from it.

I’m not sure that Zeynep appreciated the grip Gönenç had on her leg and of course like most children’s games it all ended in tears for some reason that the adults never fathomed out.

Minnie the little dog seems to have recovered from her spaying operation and is now back to full fitness. Wilf and Alf are learning to do as they’re told a bit more each day so progress is being made even if it is slow.

Well that’s all for now, there aren’t any more visitors scheduled for a week or two so things will be a bit quieter for a while.
